On 5 August, the NiAT team dismantled VSAT antenna and equipment from DMS Dian Sukang Primary School and Melilas Longhouse in Belait District. The equipment has been set up since early March, an initiative by NiAT to bring broadband internet connection to the rural and remote areas of Brunei Darussalam.
The residents of Kg Sukang and Kg Melilas have enjoyed internet connection from March to July, and have reaped benefits such as the facilitation of work and school administration, online learning for the children, and the ability to conduct business online.
This proof of concept has been conceptualised not more than a year ago… We are very proud of the progress that has been made so far and how many lives it has benefited. Our work is far from over as there are many more communities that ought to have basic internet access.
Lim Ming Soon, NiAT CEO
This initiative is the start of an exciting future for connectivity in Brunei Darussalam, whereby the most secluded locations are no longer non-contactable. With the use of satellite technology, everyone is connected!
