NiAT’s technical team successfully activated a microwave link between the radio tower in Bukit Ambok and the Teleport in Telisai on May 28, 2022. The distance between the two antennas is around 13 kilometers.
The installation was carried out in an effort to improve the performance and link availability of NiAT’s current system.
NiAT uses the AF-5G23-S45 23 dBi Antenna for airFiber AF-5X 5 GHz Carrier Backhaul Radio from Ubiquiti Networks that could produce reliable point-to-point (PtP) transmission. In order to establish a strong signal, microwave antennas are often installed in an elevated location.
To achieve this, the team hired qualified riggers (contractor) to replace the old antenna with a new one mounted 50 meters above the ground at both sites and to align both antennas towards each other.
Both antennas are powered by PoE. Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a technology for establishing wired Ethernet local area networks (LANs) that enables the electrical current necessary for operating each device to be transferred by Ethernet data cables instead of standard electrical power cords and cabling.
In order to generate a stronger signal, simultaneous end link installations were performed at both locations. The installation and positioning of the microwave antenna took the team about three days and was a huge accomplishment.
Prior to deploying the microwave antenna, our technical team conducted field testing in April to verify its performance and assure that all installation-required components meet specifications.
Installation has also been simplified thanks to the included pole mounting kit while the weatherproof design allows the antenna to be deployed nearly anywhere.
