In October of last year, NIAT’s field crew noticed water accumulation on a Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) switching mechanism at one of our remote sites during a normal monthly preventive maintenance visit.
Upon detection, the team proceeded immediately to resolve the water issues at the mechanism area using absorbent materials and ensure the water are fully removed until the area is fully dry. Once it is completely dry, layers of silicone sealant were applied around the RX’s switch and joints to create a water tight seal to ensure that there will not be any further water accumulation or leaks.
The RX switch was then tested by the team to make sure the fixture worked as intended and the system continues to function optimally.
Preventive maintenance is essential in keeping equipment running at peak efficiency. Maintaining equipment properly can minimize downtime, avoid malfunctions, enhance safety, and most of all, save costs.
