NIAT Sdn. Bhd. has recently offered and successfully its valued client satellite television services via the video distribution system (VDS), a comprehensive solution aimed at enhancing the well-being of its offshore personnel by offering onboard entertainment.
Crew welfare is crucial whenever they are away from home for an extended period, particularly in the context of remote locations commonly encountered in the oil and gas industry.
Video Distribution System (VDS)
Video distribution system (VDS) is a headend platform which is ideal for the distribution of digital TV via IP-based networks and end-to-end Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) solutions which offers multimedia services such as television, video, audio, and others.
This solution offers a tailored infotainment system such as connected TV and other relevant content such as video-on-demand, OTT (Over the Top) or Web TV. This platform is best suited for edge network deployments and it is highly customizable and offers advanced digital video broadcasting (DVB) stream processing in a 1RU chassis.
Installation process
Delivering accessible and reliable entertainment to offshore oil and gas environments can be a challenge and would require strategic technical planning.
It took the team approximately two weeks to complete the installation because it required the use of a video distribution system, which necessitated an upgrade from an analog to a digital TV distribution system. Other equipment installed for the client include dish antenna, decoders, the video distribution system, and cables.
Despite the difficulties in installing the equipment, our technical team meticulously adhered to offshore safety and compliance standards. This includes fire safety, electrical systems, and structural integrity considerations.
